Ludlow Public Schools Names Experienced Leader Sharon Cournoyer as Next Superintendent

LUDLOW, MA — Ludlow Public Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Sharon Cournoyer as the district's next Superintendent. Ms. Cournoyer, a resident of Vernon, CT, currently serves as the Superintendent of Regional School District 19 in Storrs, CT.


Ms. Cournoyer brings a wealth of experience and a unique perspective to the role, developed over a career trajectory that began as a Science Teacher in 1990. Her administrative and academic background includes roles as Curriculum Coordinator, Assistant Principal/Dean of Students, Principal, Adjunct Professor, Assistant Superintendent/Interim Superintendent, and finally Superintendent starting in 2020. Her extensive experience of the system allows her to effectively lead the work and empower professionals in specialized roles to lead their teams.


During her tenure in Connecticut, Ms. Cournoyer demonstrated comprehensive leadership by leading a budget process for 5 ½ years for a school district that included three additional towns and tuition students, where E.O. Smith serves as a school of choice and an Agricultural Education option. She also facilitated the development of multiple district grants, including Alliance Grant, Title I, II, III, and IV. Her focus on professional growth includes supporting Professional Development and fostering teacher leaders through peer-facilitated professional learning.


Her experience also covers specialized educational programs, such as hosting a transition program for students aged 18 to 22, and managing an alternative program affiliated with Big Picture Schools.


"I have a deep passion for ensuring high quality learning for all students," said Ms. Cournoyer. "I believe that not only can all students learn at high levels, but that we, as a collective profession, can teach EVERY child to achieve at high levels." She is always creating and focused on positive educational experiences that are empowering and centered on personalized instruction, feedback, and support to expand achievement and foster independence.
